Johannesburg is an inland skyline with two unusual towers rising above a broad city mass. Hillbrow Tower is a tall needle topped by a wide saucer-like crown, while Ponte City is a distinctive cylindrical high-rise with a flat or rounded cap. The surrounding skyline rolls across low ridges and office blocks without a river, harbor, or mountain wall. That makes the tower pair more important than the base. If you see a radio tower with a disc and a separate hollow-looking cylinder, choose Johannesburg. Berlin has a ball-on-a-stick tower, but its city is lower and more historic; Johannesburg feels wider, warmer, and much less formal.
